Similes - Eluvium

I like eluvium......for both its humanly warm ambient music and message to life........just like the feeling quoted from tinymixtapes 'Listening to an Eluvium record is like staring at a river. It moves, but it doesn't really go anywhere. While you stand still in front of it, waiting for something interesting to happen, you suddenly realize that your mind is flowing along with it.'........though adding vocal, drum and more pop song approach in this album, his music this time is still beautifully subtle, humanly warm, blissfully thoughtful.......

Singular Forms (Sometimes Repeated) - Sylvain Chauveau

At last, his music is back to the path of 'Down To The Bone', maybe with some more electro processing, glitch/noise stuffs this time......still his long-missing minimal piano/electronic + thoughtful vocal......simple, very simple & beautiful!!

The Courage Of Others - Midlake

Life is such an accidental tourist.....never really pay attention to the band, thought they are those wee-wee-wa-wa kitsch indie pop band.....but I'm wrong, one lazy Saturday kicking pebble listening around in hmv.......oh, come on, how come a band with such ugly cover artwork will create such rare music vibe nowadays in the facebook/internet century........thinking those ancient 60/70s love-peace long curly haired pure folk rock stuffs crashing with 90s thom yorke playing acoustic guitar singing creep, fake plastic tree, nice dream.......those almost-forgot old school melancholic and apocalyptic feeling all come back.......frankly, the music is not original, not new, even not really outstanding and sometime repetitive, but I just keep playing the album recently for such rare vibe and longing for good old days....

The Creatures In The Garden Of Lady Walton - Clogs

I think I like their sole instrumental stuffs more........purified beauty of classical-leaning post rock sound still this time, but the over-dominant singing by vocals from My Brightest Diamond and National spoil a bit the feeling!!

(22 March 2010)

Tomorrow Becomes You - Slow Six

very good classical/chamber post rock stuffs......something aesthetical drifting around from dirty three, balmorhea & domakesaythink.....

(22 March 2010)

Johann Johannsson "and in the endless pause there came the sound of bees"

still his familiar time-traveling epic orchestral stuffs......digging a bit to knowing this is a score for animated film 'Varmints' ....something like wall-e kind-of movie... http://www.youtube.com/user/STUDIOAKA#p/u/1/RJQ4RTo6hRg

(17 March 2010)

Liars - Sisterworld

back to cool stuffs of their early release this time.......but the remix disc is such a crap....

(17 March 2010)

A Chorus of Storytellers - Album Leaf

listening this now with the boring german football still.....quite a repeating-himself disappointing stuffs...but i like the art work......

(13 March 2010)

The drift - memory drawings

it's very good album indeed...a bit exceeding my expectation....very solid jazzy post rock stuff....

(21 April 2008)

AARON MARTIN - River Water

i like his minimal drone sound a lot.......his cello laden drone sound is very organic, humanly warm, abstract, beautiful, hazy colorful, melancholic bababa.........very good vibe for thinking.......very good stuffs indeed!!!

(29 February 2008)

Far from Refuge - God Is an Astronaut

their last one is just so-so for me as their post rock sound is a bit too light too atmospheric for me........but this one is just too damn good with very solid post rock jam like mogwai and cool guitar riffs like calla.......a very mature and exciting album!!!

(29 February 2008)

To Know And Not To Know - Noah Creshevsky

keep doing electro acoustic collage sound art in a more academic & classical way throughout the album.......easy-accessible and interesting but not really great stuffs!!

(29 February 2008)

Cavalier - Tom Brosseau

i like his last album very much...this one is still played with simple old-fashioned country folk stuffs with touching finger pick guitar play and emotional vocal by this talented singer-song-writer........a bit more subtle and quieter than last one that needs time to absorb!! but the boring cover art really kill this album.....

(29 February 2008)

The Blaze Game - Sunburned Circle

you can hear sunburn's loosen free from weird americana and circle's sometime metal sometime psyche sometime space sometime kraut rock stuffs, but the vibe's just a bit flat which seems not really having too much spark in this collaboration!!!

(29 February 2008)

Let The Blind Lead Those Who Can See But Cannot Feel - Atlas Sound

more abstract more hypnotic approach on his deerhunter alike post punk sound......more kranky way....still very cool stuffs!!

(29 February 2008)

Old Growth - Dead Meadow

surprised with very little doom metal stuffs......in fact, it's a very very easy accessible polished guitar pop rock music with a bit shoegaze, blue, psychedlic influences....a bit too traditional too typical i think

(22 February 2008)

Acid Mother Temple & The Melting Paraiso U.F.O. - 41st Century Splendid Man Returns

such funny music is exactly what the vibe of the cover and title is........an idiotic psychedelic 2008 space odyssey!!!

(22 February 2008)

Heretic Pride - The Mountain Goats

build up on his last album's delicate acoustic folk ballads with more upbeat americana folk rock stuffs this time......the path is a bit like decemberists' last two albums.....becoming more big more diversified......mmmmh it's okay, but i think i like their last one more!!!

(22 February 2008)

Vampire Weekend - Vampire Weekend

it's really refreshed while listening at the first time with such new mixed breed of ska and post punk stuffs.....very hyped very party animal fun music.......impression is good, i just doubt how long can the feeling be lasted??!!

(22 February 2008)

The Battle of Land and Sea - The Battle of Land and Sea

hyper dreamy slow core acoustic/shoegaze folk stuffs.......you will feel like to see the re-born of mazzy star!!!
